The Philosophy of Chiropractic Care

Chiropractors have a philosophy on healthcare and healing which differs from the traditional view held by medical doctors. Chiropractors take a more holistic approach to healthcare and healing and focus more on promoting health and healing ailments through understanding and correcting the way the body systems work together. Chiropractors evaluate a patient as a whole and assess and treat the underlying cause of the patient’s health ailment or disease by correcting the problem that causes the body system to not function correctly. They do not simply treat the symptom of the problem they look for why the body is weak in that area and try to strengthen and correct the body systems that are responsible for the health of the ailing part of the body.

The Chiropractic model of care emphasizes the body’s ability to maintain and heal itself and focuses on strengthening body systems to promote health instead of using drugs or surgery to just treat symptoms. Chiropractors also know that optimal health is not achieved by taking chemicals and drugs or cutting or modifying body tissues or organs. Chiropractors believe that health is something that is inherent to our body if the body is maintained properly and functions optimally.

While Chiropractors understand that circumstances do occur that require medical intervention the body is the final decider that conducts and manages the process of healing and not drugs, surgery, or other externally applied forces. When a Chiropractor corrects spinal misalignments they eliminate spinal and nerve irritation that interferes with the proper function of the nervous system. With these treatments pain is alleviated and the body’s natural healing capabilities are set into motion.

The Art of Chiropractic Care

Chiropractors detect vertebral subluxations through manual manipulation of the spine and adjust these problem areas to correct the subluxation and the problems it causes.

The detection and treatment of spinal subluxations takes proper training and experience. Learning to effectively identify vertebral subluxations takes years of study and practice. Chiropractic adjustments are also skilled procedures and require many years of training and practice. Learning to successfully adjust the joints of the spinal column and extremities is one of the most challenging tasks a Chiropractic student encounters.

Learning to properly detect spinal problems and adjust the spine and extremities safely and effectively is a refined art and should only be performed by a licensed Chiropractor. Chiropractic patients do get relief from many types of ailments with the right Chiropractic care.
